How sockets work
A weapon gets one socket per upgrade level, up to 10. Swords, clubs, axes, distance weapons and wands can take them. Upgrading is covered under Refining.
Gems only drop from monsters. To fit one, use the gem on the weapon. The weapon can't be equipped while you do it.
- Elemental gems only fit a weapon that already deals that element.
- Physical gems don't fit wands.
- Minor Physical and Minor Elemental take two sockets. Every other gem takes one.

Greater gems
A rarer drop. Each greater gem rolls two random stats from the same list when it drops, and takes one socket. A weapon holds at most three.
Removing gems
Use the Sockets tab at an anvil. Clean Last Socket takes out the last gem you fitted and Clean All Sockets empties the weapon. Either one costs 1,000 gold and 5 small diamonds. The gems removed are destroyed; the sockets stay open for new ones.
