Boss Rooms

← Wiki

Private boss rooms

A boss room is a cell behind a closed door where a boss waits for you and your party alone. Nobody else can follow you in, and the boss's loot is rolled for each of you at a chest outside. Every boss and its advised level is on the Bosses page.

Going in

  1. Use the door. It never opens; using it brings up a window with the room's price. In a party, only the leader uses it.
  2. Every party member within 30 tiles and one floor of the leader gets a window of their own, showing what it costs them. Nobody pays for anyone else.
  3. It is all or nothing. The group goes in the moment the last member accepts. A decline, no answer within 10 seconds, a member who cannot pay, or one who logs out or wanders off cancels it for everyone, and a cancel costs nobody anything. The leader's window closes if they step away from the door.

You cannot go in while you are protection-zone locked from attacking a player, and nobody can bring in a party member the door would refuse on their own.

The price

Every room gives you one free attempt a day. After that each attempt costs 1 task point, earned from tasks. The day turns at server save, 10:00 UTC. An attempt is spent when you go in and never refunded, deaths and wipes included.

Inside

  • You have 20 minutes, with a warning at 5 and at 1 minute left.
  • The run ends 10 seconds after the kill, when time runs out, or as soon as nobody is left inside. Everyone still there is put in front of the door.
  • Using the door from inside lets you leave early. Logging in inside a room that is no longer yours puts you outside.
  • Some rooms have several identical cells behind one door; a group gets the first free one. The door only says the room is occupied when every cell is taken.

The rooms

The rooms come in pairs at each level: one for knights and paladins, one for mages and druids, or two different fights to choose between. Only the level 20 and level 200 rooms check your level at the door.

King Thorgrim's and Grakmor's chests pay their armour with a little less protection than the same piece found elsewhere: dwarven armor up to 3% physical and dwarven legs up to 2%, the elemental robes up to 5% and their legs up to 4%.

The reward chest

A room boss's body is empty. Instead every player who was in the fight gets one claim on the chest beside the door, which rolls the boss's own loot just for you. Claims keep: you can come back for them later.

The Aurelia chest

Any boss

The chest beside the Aurelian Cells pays any boss you are owed: every room's unclaimed rolls, Grand Master Oberon's treasury and boss rift claims. Each use hands over one roll and tells you how many are left.

A boss killed in a room never comes back as a Tainted or Corrupted variant.

The Aurelian Cells

Warden Maelis

Level 20

She stands by the barred door below the temple of Aurelia. Ask her about the cells. Under level 20 she sends you away; at 20 she explains boss rooms and, if you agree, sends you in to face Brakkhar Ironhorn. The door does not open for anyone she has not sent.

The quest log follows it as "The Aurelian Cells":

  1. Talk to Warden Maelis and agree to face Brakkhar.
  2. Use the barred door and kill him. There are three identical cells, so several groups can fight at once.
  3. Claim your share from the chest by the door. Your first claim also holds a wedding ring at Item Level 10, bound to you.
  4. Go back to Maelis. Its first Rarity Upgrade and first Upgrade are free: no gold, no materials, and the rarity cannot fail. Use an anvil, open Item refining and put the ring in the slot. The free refines work only for you; a traded ring or another character pays full price.
  5. Report back to Maelis once both are done.

Brakkhar's cell stays open to you afterwards like any other room.

Boss rifts

Some room bosses also appear in boss rifts, out in the world, where the mechanics that need their room are swapped for new ones. A rift kill pays a claim you can also take at the Aurelia chest, and a room boss killed in a rift pays only that way.
